HAMANGIA FOUNDATION
Mateescu considers there is an inflation in the field of pottery to the detriment of ceramic works dedicated to environment and architecture. Pottery is a profession, sculpture is a vocation. Sculpture is a social necessity, bronze and stone have been over explored for centuries and have, now, become unaffordable for artists to work with. Clay allows more freedom to artists to easily experiment with different ideas. It offers the possibility to make indestructible sculptures, when fired at high-temperature.
The Hamangia Foundation presents under the category 'Selected Ceramic Artists' a number of ceramic sculptors who by their works, missions and beliefs will raise the public awareness of clay as a fine art medium, and will encourage students and artists to devote time and resources to produce works of art integrated in nature or incorporated in architecture.
The Foundation intends to offer grants to artists working in ceramic sculpture so they can dedicated themselves to the development of their work. Artists may be at all stages of career, from emerging artists to well established names. The grant will be based on merit only.
